How can i upgrade a 2g iphone to the latest firmware. The iphone is jailbroken and unlock too.?
I have it not through ATT. Can some one guide me on how to upgrade this iphone? like is said is a 2g iphone unlocked and jailbroken as well. Thanks
Answer:
You canot upgrade and keep your jailbreak or unlock. It's a bad idea – especially since there's no unlock solution for phones running the newest firmware.
Nevertheless, if you really want to upgrade, bring up iTunes on your computer, plug in your phone and when prompted to upgrade, click Yes.

Um, you can upgrade to the latest firmware. The iPhone 2G is invulnerable of being not-unlockable since it has the S-Gold baseband chipset which has a hardware based exploit that allows users to run anything to it (software limitations are very limited on what they can do on the iPhone 2G)
Anyways all you do is download the iPhone 2G OS 3.1.3 firmware (the current one as of February 2010) off www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Then download sn0wbreeze off http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/welcome.snow
Then well sn0wbreeze is similar to PwnageTool it allows you to create custom firmware PLUS it lets you put in .deb files in other words Cydia apps in the custom firmware so Cydia apps install during the upgrade (handy). There's a built-in Cydia app that lets you download the apps.
If you have a Mac of course get PwnageTool since sn0wbreeze is a Pwnagetool-solution for Windows users.
Then afterwards after sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool creates the custom firmware (its on the desktop) just put your iPhone in either DFU or Recovery Mode and Shift + Click Restore to the custom firmware
