Don't Buy an iPhone, Save Money With the MyTouch
The first Google phone, the G1, was designed and hyped to be the bane of the iPhone, and while it was and is a great phone, it fell somewhat short of the super sleek apple iPhone.
The new Google phone, the MyTouch 3G from HTC, is adding on the great features of the G1 and bringing even more to the table — all for less than even the entry level iPhone.
On release, the MyTouch will cost $199 with a 2-year contract with T-Mobile. The first incarnation of the iPhone dropped to $99 with a new contract to AT&T, but when AT&T’s data plan is added on (about $60) it becomes a much bigger monthly bill than the MyTouch 3G — which will be $25 for the cheapest unlimited data plan.
Like the G1, myTouch 3G was also designed by HTC and boasts of a 3.2-inch HVGA touch screen display with portrait and landscape mode, a 3.2MP camera, music player, 4GB microSD memory card, enhanced video capabilities, Wi-Fi and T-Mobile‘s 3G network which means fast GPS and Google Maps.
Another feature of the MyTouch — or rather a feature that Apple banned from the iPhone — is Google Voice. Google started giving out invites to the Google Voice beta program like candy recently. The service is ideal for small business owners, you can create your own phone number and forward it to any number you want when you want, so when you close up shop for the weekend, you can keep work from bothering you. You can also send free SMS text messages through Google Voice and have your messages turned into text emails — all for free.
It’s no wonder why Apple banned the service from the iPhone, but anyone who wants to take full advantage should jump on the MyTouch 3G instead of the iPhone.
It might not be the heralded iPhone killer, but the MyTouch 3G will certainly give AT&T a run for their money.
