Should I get a Mac or Dell laptop?

I want to get a mac or dell laptop. I will be using the laptop mainly for homework related things like word and web surfing and the basic things. But I will also use the laptop for my itouch and iphone which I do hack. Which should I get? (I would buy an older version of either one on ebay, and they are roughly $200)

Answer:

I'm a pc.

You should get the Mac; preferably a new Mac, not an older, used model. There are no viruses for Mac OS X; they are the same or less than Windows PCs and include a host of actual high-quality software you would otherwise have to pay for with Windows; there's no crapware trial software loaded onto them; they hold their value far longer than a PC, and they're built to last, unlike a PC.

There are no compatibility issues; that's a myth propagated by people who have no idea what they're talking about. There are fewer software packages, but since when does sheer quantity equal quality? Instead of having to choose between 150,000 mostly crappy software programs, you can limit yourself to about 35,000 quality software programs.

I think the Mac is a better computer but you will have to deal with compatibility issues. If you have the money to purchase Office for your MAC, then you should be OK. But, if you are strapped for cash, I would recommend getting the Dell laptop. The software packages are cheaper and more compatible with other computers used at school.

Ok, Jon… What will Jonah tell the professor when he has to turn in a homework assignment in the *.xls format and he prepares that homework in a MAC software package that is not compatible to *.xls? And, I have used MACs and PCs in my lifetime and I will tell you that there are some serious compatibility issues if you are not willing to purchase certain software packages.

I think you are the jerk…not the rest of the people answering this question. What do I know? I have only been using both computers for 20+ years and probably long before you were born cupcake!

Well for the things you said, I would recommend a Windows operating system (Dell). Because it lets you do all those things and it's mostly compatible being that most people have a Windows operating system. A Mac is more for designing I believe… Though it's your chose and just because you have a Iphone and Itouch apple has made it equal on both operating systems.

Mac is expensive and crappier :P
Dell is cheap and is only really good for work related things, can play games but very limited depending on your graphics.
Your iTouch and iPhone will still work good with the dell, iTunes is a good program for it.

Get the MacBook. You'll qualify for a discount at the Apple education store. You'll get the top rated laptop, the highest rated tech support & reliability, the highest rated customer satisfaction, and no viruses to worry about.

The mac for sure, I have one & it works great! It may be more expensive, but it doesn't get viruses because it is built to block them. With dell you have to buy that virus protector, which rarely works.

mac, i would say dell because its cheaper and you can hack it to run MAC OS X but Dell is getting really poor and had to reduce the quality of their computers and can break easily now.
