How many GB is a normal iPod touch or iPhone App?

I want to buy an iPod touch. I had my mind set on a 32gb one, but they are so expensive! I was wondering how many GB an App for it is (Facebook, Texting etc.) to see if I would rather get the 8GB one.. if it would fit all the stuff I wanted.

they got rid of 16 for iPod touch
(at least in Canada they no longer sell them).
